Dr. Shannon Bright Smith is the 12th president of the International Women's Council.  She is a member of Ellis Temple Church in Yemassee, SC.  She is the wife of Pastor Clifford J. Smith, Sr. and the mother of two children.  Dr. Smith received water baptism in Jesus' name at a young age and the gift of the Holy Ghost in June of 1978.  She has worked in the Women’s Council for years; including serving as a Councilette as a teenager. 

Dr. Smith was appointed Recording Secretary in the SC Palmetto Diocese in 2003.  She went on to serve as Vice President for 2 years and President for 5 years.  Dr. Smith served as Vice President of Global Mission for the International Women’s Council for 3 years before being elected President in 2014.  Dr. Smith became an IWC Lifetime member in 2001 and was crowned the first IWC Woman of the Year in that same year.

She received a Certificate in Women’s Ministries in 2007 (Summa Cum Laude) from W. L. Bonner College, Columbia, SC.  Dr. Smith is active in her local congregation and Diocese serving in many capacities (First Lady, Musician, District Missionary Supervisor, and Advisor to SC Palmetto Diocese ABYPU Department, to name a few.) 

Dr. Smith holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Organizational Leadership and is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Nursing at Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina.  She believes that God has made this education possible that His people might be blessed. Dr. Smith previously  taught in Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, PhD in Nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs.

The theme for this administration is Standing on Our Legacy as We Possess Our Future.  The president believes that there is much history in the IWC that should be celebrated and remembered to encourage our younger ladies.  The goal is to continue growth and development necessary to attain all God has promised for our future.  Dr. Smith also believes this to be an excellent time for Mothers to impart knowledge to foster sustenance in the IWC.
